George III Mahogany Campaign Chest in Two Parts & Rare Small Size on Turned Feet

About the Item

Early 19th century English five drawer mahogany campaign chest of unusual small size. Made in two sections and on turned feet, the top section with two short drawers over one long drawer and the lower section with two long drawers. Each drawer front with an incised line around the edge and with flush mounted brass pulls with cut corners and brass escutcheons. All drawers fitted with a lock, four of which have a double bolt mechanism and are marked "PATENT", the top right drawer having a lock with a single wide bolt mechanism stamped "BRAMAHS" under a crown as well as "PATENT" under a crown. The Bramahs lock would have been used on a drawer for valuables or important documents, as it was more secure as well as more expensive.
